Bread Bowls for Soups or Salads

Jared and I were huge fans of the bread bowl salads at Perkins and were very sad when they took them off the menu. I was determined to learn to make my own so that we could still have them once in a while. You can use frozen bread dough or your favorite bread recipe.
  • 1 pound bread dough (if you are making your own dough, you could get a little creative with some spices and things)
Directions
  1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees.
  2. Prepare dough according to recipe if making your own or thaw the frozen loaf.
  3. Divide bread dough into fourths.* Roll each fourth into an 8 inch circle.
  4. Brush the back of 4 oven-safe bowls with oil or cooking spray. Place bowls upside down on a baking sheet. Place dough circles on bowls. Brush edge of dough with water and fold it back into a "hem" to make a bowl rim.
  5. Bake at 375 degrees for 18 to 20 minutes.
*This is for a 1 pound loaf, if you make up enough dough for a larger loaf plan to divide the dough into more pieces (1 lb loaf = 4 bowls, 1.5 lb loaf = 6 bowls, 2 lb loaf = 8 bowls).
